BOHO Quilt for Tammie

A friend and neighbor recently lost her mother.  She and her husband are rebuilding their home.  I asked her about her new home.  She mentioned that she was using black, grey and brown with touches of  boho style accents.  Below is flimsy of the quilt I am making for her.

Boho style is a free-spirited aesthetic that mixes different cultures and artistic expressions into an eclectic style with an emphasis on organic elements and nature.
Quilt stats:  as a flimsy 69 inches square, 61 blocks set 6 blocks across and 11 down.
Blocks are quarter square log cabins, cut 6.5" square  with 2.5" accents. Finish at 8 inches.
Setting triangles: finished block size X 1.41 + 1.25 inches = parent square. I round up and used 13 inch squares cut diagonally twice.
Corner triangles: (finished block size X 1.41)/2 + 0.875 = parent square cut once on the diagonal.  Used 6.5" square on this quilt.

Binding Trick

When binding I have a hard time with getting the two ends sewed together without having the binding be twisted.

https://so-sew-easy.com/perfectly-join-quilt-binding/

This post at so sew easy, helps me keep that straight.

how to join quilt binding

In the step that corresponds with this photo, the quilt is folded from the bottom up and then the strips are overlapped right sides together.

I also like her technique of cutting the two ends to the correct length.

Happy stitching.

This is a great mystery and lots of fun.  Thanks again, Alycia.

Starting with my fabric choice.

This is my Dark 2.

Close up of Dark 2.  License Plates.

I should have found the Texas plate and taken a close of it.

Maybe in the next post.  This one is for Alycia and my friend Norbra.

Lone Rider Mystery part 1

I decided to participate in the A-9 Patriotic Mystery presented by Alyica of Alycia Quilts.

The first step of the mystery is making 80 four patches.

I chose navy as the Dark 1 and white as the Light 1 fabric choices.

Below you can see a few of the completed four patches.

And just because--a picture of son #1 and my our dog Maggie.

She loves my son more than me.
